International Monetary Fund
The Principality of Liechtenstein has been an official member of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) since October 21, 2024. The IMF is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN), which was founded in 1945. Including Liechtenstein, the IMF counts 191 member countries. The organization promotes the balanced growth of world trade, the stability of exchange rates, the monitoring of monetary and currency policy and offers its members technical assistance and monetary support in the event of a crisis.
Article IV Consultations
The purpose of the consultations referred to in Art. IV of the Articles of Agreement of the IMF is to monitor and analyze the economic and financial market policies of all IMF Member States, with a particular focus on economic developments, fiscal policy and financial market stability. To this end, each Member State is visited annually and an intensive dialogue is conducted with local authorities and organizations.
The first IMF Art. IV mission in Liechtenstein took place from January 7 to 20, 2025. On January 20, the IMF staff published the Concluding Statement linked below. The IMF's more detailed first Art. IV Report on Liechtenstein is due to be published in spring 2025.
